Nelson County is home to the 5 wineries that make up the
western arm of the Monticello Wine Trail. Many of the wineries offer special events in addition to their usual tasting hours such as live music, barbecues and more. Wineries in Central Virginia are also popular spots for weddings and parties. In the past 16 months, two breweries have also opened in Nelson County.

Nelson has acclaimed notoriety as the home of Walton's Mountain creator Earl Hamner, Jr., who drew on his experiences growing up in the county to create the popular television series. The
