Situated in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains is the small town of Madison, Virginia (named after U.S. President James Madison). This area of central Virginia is picturesque and offers a wonderful lifestyle. Residents and visitors enjoy outdoor activities such as- trout fishing, hunting, backpacking, bird watching and horseback riding as well as rock hunting. The Shenandoah National Park with nature's beauty is not very far away. Madison is full of Civil War sites and historical monuments. For a taste of early American architecture, several buildings are open for tours, or still being used for their original purposes.

The county was home to a Presidential retreat, Hoover Camp, which now hosts many festivals and attractions including the Tour De Madison bike race sponsored by Plow and Hearth. Other events include the Music on the Lawn series at the library and traditional activities such as the annual county fair and Taste of the Mountains festival at Graves Mountain Lodge.

Madison enjoys a pastoral setting in the mountains; however, the amenities of larger cities aren't too far away. Charlottesville and Richmond are about 30 miles from Madison. Washington D.C. is just a 39 mile drive. Opportunities for higher education are also available as the University of Virginia and Piedmont Community College are located in nearby Charlottesville.
